Calandonia

The Realm is at war. The Heroes of the Lux must find a way to thwart the plans of the Dragon Mage Al'zoon before the Realm is destroyed. While the rest of the world seems mired in bureacracy, the intrepid heroes press on. Oh yeah, there's also an ancient red dragon and a vampire fey lord trying to ruin things, too! We have a short primer here detailing the most recent events from our game world.

A Guide to the World of Calandonia

The policies and procedures inside that document are dated. If in doubt, please refer to the policies detailed through this website instead!

Calanda: The Seat of Power

This is the main area that the campaign has focused on. It is the seat of power in the realms. The largest city is Calanhelm where the Queen, Arch Mage and Grand Council hold power. Note that although the Dwarven Enclave of Ral'Endas is within Calanda's borders, they are completely independant of the monarchy. The span between the Duchy of Carass and the Duchy of Parson is not titled and there are many nobles vying to stake claims within the trade route known as the King's Highway.

For those playing Humans, here is the Noble Houses Guide.

Middenvale - Land of the Realmsworn and Ogres!

Middenvale is located just south of Calanda. The area is home to large clans and tribes of Realmsworn and Ogres. The Ogres were displaced here from the Edgeland Desert at the end of the Great Wars. They have taken some of the customs of the Middenvale Realmsworn when it comes to family structure and using tartans as a representation of their tribes.

11 main clans/tribes claim the territory within the borders of Middenvale and there are hundreds of smaller clans/tribes in the area.

Rocholm - Land of Eternal Conflict

Rocholm is situated west of the Dark Reaches and south of where Cadnia used to be.
The lands of Rocholm are harsh and unforgiving. The Elves who leave here are used to endless warfare. Just when they thought the onslaught from the Frost Giant tribes had passed with the disappearance of Cadnia, the onslaught from the Dark Reaches increased dramatically. Every day is war.

A Quick Species Primer for Calandonia

The brief details below are local flavor for Calandonia in addition to what can be found in the Species of Refuge page.

Humans: The most numerous of the species. Most of their history is detailed in the World Guide.

Elves: There are four distinct types of Elves in Calandonia:

  • Rocholm Elves: Militant Elves with a high code of honour
  • Valdenhold Elves: Seafaring Elves! Think Pirates or Swashbucklers
  • Faybridge Elves: Money-loving neutral Elves. Traders and merchants
  • Kanask Elves: Isolationist Elves (Kanask has vanished)

Dark Elves: This new species to Calanda made its appearance during the Great War, much to the annoyance of the Dwarves. They have 2 Enclaves; Valdenhold (Spire's Reach) and the Edgeland Desert Mountains (Shadow Rose). Not much is known of this species as they tend to keep to themselves.

Halflings: Merchants, mischief makers and more! Their main city is Auric in the Free States of Fathom's Deep.

Ogres: Mighty fighters with a love of nature and a strict honour code. Either from the Edgeland Desert Mountains or the Middenvale Mountains.

Orcs: these Orcs see themselves as better than their mountain-dwelling cousins. They are a major force in the Edgeland Desert.

Syladrin: The Syladrin of Calandonia are also known as Tari-Nor. They live in a free society hidden magically in the Glades of Turom. They cannot stand necromancy or slavery in any form.

Realmsworn: Honorable warriors with stong ties to the land:

  • Winter’s Edge - Think Vikings and frost!
  • Edgeland Desert - Structured lands in the Desert. Led by the Sultana. They work closely with the Orcs.
  • Middenvale - For clans with a strong love of family and known for wearing tartans.

Dwarves: Excellent in crafting and excellent as allies. Many of the Dwarves in Calandonia stay within their strongholds where they are led by their thanes. There are four main clans that a player can be from:

  • Turom Falls
  • Ral’Endas
  • Kelech Mor
  • Ironridge

Kyn: They vary as wildly as the animals they are influenced by. Most Kyn call the Free States of Fathom's Deep home, but can be found all over Calandonia.

Stone Elves: Always focused on controlling their emotions, they can be found mostly in Faybridge and Turom.

Avani: They are semi-isolationists on their island in Fathom’s Deep (Domus is their largest city).

Meta-Organizations & Guilds

Meta-Organizations are organizations that your character may join. They give you some more depth to your character and help you pick some skills to help you progress along it's ranks. Ever wanted to be a commander of a battalion of troops? How about head of the merchant guild? Leader of a magical order? Well these are here to help guide you along on your character's career path.

Below is a listing of the organizations that currently exist and a brief synopsis of what they are about.

  • The Home Guard 2.0:The standing army of Calanda. This force answers to Queen Ava of Calada.
  • The Arcane Sanctum 2.0: The Celestial Guild of Calandonia. Its reach is far and almost all Celestial mages find themselves among its ranks.
  • The Earth Weavers 2.0: The order of Earth mages. Much less rigid in their structure than the Arcane Sanctum. They do keep a record of all Earth mages in their sphere of influence.
  • The Silken Alliance: A Halfling run merchant house specializing in the trade of rare silks from Auric. This organization may only be entered into by invitation.
  • The Uruzaries: An Orc/Ogre organization in servitude to the Realmsworn Sultana of the Edgeland Desert. Orcs find themselves on special assignment to the Queen of Calanda.
  • Hammer Outfitters: originally a Dwarven guild for craftsmen, specifically blacksmiths, this group has taken on members from other species in the last century and continues to grow in diversity and knowledge.
